How to use safety eyes

Safety eyes are plastic pieces that add life to your amigurumi stuffed plushies. They are easy to attach but can be difficult to remove. Each eye diameter is measured in millmeters.

Safety eyes are not safe for children under the age of 3 years old or pets. As an alternative, you can also embroider the eyes on instead.

How to attach safety eyes (step-by-step with photos)

Step 1

Make sure the ‘right side’ of the piece is facing you.

Step 2

There is also a front and back to pieces. The back is where the rounds start and finish, which causes a step or jump in stitches. The front is the opposite side, where v’s are neatly aligned.

Step 3

Count the stitches from round one (or the magic ring) to find the position of the eyes. Insert eyes between the rounds.

Step 4

Count how many stitches away from the first eye to determine the placement of the second eye. These are the number of gaps, one per stitch.

Step 5

Add the eye to that space.

Step 5

Push down on both transparent backing pieces until you hear a snap sound. Then check it’s secure and holding in place.
